2017 Ram 1500 vs 2017 Toyota Tundra

If you were asked to list some of the biggest pickup truck brands, Ram would most certainly make your list. Toyota, on the other hand, may be more unlikely to make that list. Yet, Toyota does make a full-size pickup like the Ram 1500, and it's called the Tundra. To give the vehicle a fair chance, and to help you find out which truck to buy next, we're comparing the 2017 Ram 1500 vs the 2017 Toyota Tundra.

Before we dig into some of the capabilities between the two vehicles, let's first address the major difference clearly evident from the table below: price. The 1500 starts at a far lower MSRP than the Tundra, and despite this difference in cost, comes with many of the same standard features like a 40/20/40-split bench seat, a tilt steering wheel, a USB port and a front stabilizer bar.

Differences Between the 2017 Ram 1500 and 2017 Toyota Tundra

With such a difference in starting MSRP, you will clearly want to ask why the Tundra is worth the higher price. A more powerful standard engine may be the case, but that standard engine drops down to a less powerful 4.6-liter engine in some of the Tundra's higher trims. The 2017 Ram 1500, however, gives you the option of three different engines instead of just two. One of these power plants is an EcoDiesel option capable of delivering up to 420 lb.-ft. of torque while still managing 29 mpg highway.

Even if you don't opt for the 1500's EcoDiesel, you can enjoy the truck's maximum towing capacity of up to 10,640 pounds, edging out the Tundra. Other towing features that come with the 2017 Ram 1500 include an integrated trailer hitch for a safer and secure connection, as well as Trailer Sway Control.
