Performance and capabilities of the 2018 Dodge Durango
The trim levels for the 2018 Durango may be a little confusing at first, especially for those not familiar with the Dodge trim-level naming conventions. To start the lineup off, you have the SXT trim, and above that there is the SXT Plus, the GT, the Citadel, the R/T, and finally the top SRT trim.
Most people looking at the Durango will likely want an all-wheel-drive drivetrain, and that’s not a problem at all. The SXT base is rear-wheel drive only, but after that all-wheel drive becomes an option with the SXT Plus and above. The SRT trim level is only available as an all-wheel-drive model.
There are a total of three engines available on the Durango for 2018. The SXT up through the Citadel trim all get the same 3.6-liter V6 Pentastar engine with 295 horsepower, 19-city mpg, and 26-highway mpg. If you want a little more power than that, then the R/T can provide with its 5.7-liter HEMI V8 that pumps out 360 horsepower. Blowing all other competitors out of the water is the SRT trim with its 6.4-liter HEMI SRT V8 that produces 475 horsepower and gives you a 0-60 mph time of just 4.4 seconds.
The Durango also features best in class towing with up to 8,700 pounds of towing capacity when properly equipped. If what you were really looking for on the capability front was passenger space, then know that the Durango has standard seating for 7 with two in front, two in back, and three in the middle row. The Citadel and SRT trims swap the third-row bench seat for captain’s chairs reducing the seating capacity to 6.
