Pickup drivers who want that extra output of torque know th This new generation turbo-diesel builds on the success of the previous Duramax 6.6L engine by boosting maximum torque output by 19% for a whopping 910 lb.-ft. For those who frequently do heavy-duty towing, this increase in torque should provide a more confident driving feel when hauling a trailer. Best of all, the new Duramax delivers 90% of its overall torque output at a low 1,550 rpm and can keep it going up through 2,850 rpm. The new turbo-diesel also increases horsepower by putting out 445 horsepower at 2,800 rpm. So, what has changed on this new 6.6L engine compared to the previous power plant? According to Chevy, just about everything. All that has remained the same are the bore and stroke dimensions. chevy’s new 6.6l duramax turbo diesel engineThe changes include a new vehicle air intake system, evidenced by the Silverado HD’s hood scoop, which cools the engine with dry air for sustained performance during those moments when drivers need to push the pickup’s capabilities. Also new is a segment-first Venturi Jet Drain Oil Separator, which uses air generated by the turbocharger to push fine oil mist back to the engine oil sump so that it can be reused for improved oil control during full-load operation.
