What’s New on the 2018 Chevy Equinox?

The Equinox has been a popular model in the crossover market since its debut in the 2005 model year, and now, it’s about to receive a serious refresh. The Equinox will be all-new for the 2018 model year with an updated design, new engine options and a whole lot more.

We can’t wait to show you what’s new in-person at Parks Chevrolet, but since the 2018 Chevy Equinox won’t be available for a number of months yet, we’ll take you through many of the key changes right here. There’s a lot to be excited about.

2018 Chevy Equinox Design Changes

Let’s start by taking a look at the design. The Equinox is certainly still recognizable, but there have been some changes made in the style department. Though we’ll let the photos do most of the talking, there are a few things to make note of.

For one, LED daytime running lights will be a permanent design feature on the Equinox, as they come standard on the 2018 model. Also on the front of the vehicle, the Equinox ditches the body-color crossbar sweeping across the grille and replaces it with a piece of chrome trim.

Inside, an all-new architecture has allowed Chevy designers and engineers to position the instrument panel down and away with a low windshield base. Altogether this should deliver a more spacious feeling for passengers and a broad outward view for the driver. Chevy has also said that denim-style seat fabric will be available for more durability without sacrificing the Equinox’s upscale feel.

New Engine Options for the 2018 Equinox

The Equinox may look a little different for 2018, but perhaps the biggest change has occurred under the hood. The 2018 model will provide drivers with three new engine options to choose from, starting with a 1.5-liter turbo producing a GM-estimated 170 horsepower and 203 lb.-ft. of torque.

That will likely be plenty of power for most drivers, but if you’d like more, you can opt for a 2.0-liter turbo that puts out 252 horsepower and 260 lb.-ft. of torque as estimated by GM. That said, it’s likely the new 1.6-liter turbo-diesel is what many drivers will be eager to try, as it can achieve up to 40 mpg highway while still managing to deliver 236 lb.-ft. of torque based on initial estimates from GM. Plus, since the Equinox for 2018 has shed about 400 lbs. of weight, all of this power should go even further.
